About Us

Kyle McKenzie, owner and head guide of Kayak Lake Dillon has spent most of his life outdoors. He grew up in a small town in South Carolina, and fishing and boating with his brothers and friends at Lake Wateree and Edisto Island are some of his favorite memories. He credits those fishing trips with instilling in him a profound love of the outdoors. 

As a college student and teenager, Kyle spent his summers as a kayak guide in Bar Harbor, Maine. His respect for nature grew as he kayaked the North Atlantic, and it was in Maine, while taking families and other groups on trips around Bar Harbor, that he discovered he enjoyed sharing his passion of the outdoors with others.       

Kyle graduated from North Carolina State University in 2005 with a degree in Fisheries and Wildlife Science with emphasis on ecology. After graduation, he took a trip to Colorado and discovered Breckenridge – its year round climate and location between the mountains and Lake Dillon seemed to Kyle to be the perfect place for an outdoors man to call home. 

Kayak Lake Dillon combines Kyle’s respect for and love of the outdoors with his kayaking guide experience and his education in ecology. As you take a tour with him and share his knowledge, you’ll discover a part of Lake Dillon you didn't know before. And, like others, you might even discover that Kyle’s passion for what he does is contagious!
